does forgetfulness from xyrem go away with continued use? been taking for my sleep disorder for 3 weeks. started at 3g/night titrated up to 9g/night. short term memory problems/forgetfulness started at 9g. went back to 6g but still having problems?

Xyrem: This medication is used to treat cataplexy and excessive daytime sleepiness in narcolepsy. Memory problems are not listed as a side effect according to my reading, but the prescribing physician and/or your pharmacist may have more information for you.

: There are numerous causes of cognitive alterations, including anxiety, depression, lack of sleep, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid problems, medication adverse reactions, recreational drug abuse, alcoholism, etc.  Have NO clue why you are having this. No reason it would: There should be no direct link between these gynecological conditions and memory function. However, worry about the conditions, pain from them, side effects of their treatments can all have effects on your mental functioning. With your attention impaired and distracted by those things it is possible your memory would suffer. Mindfulness Meditation helps.

If you or your doc: is considering ECT you probably have intractable depression that has not responded to other treatments.  Your ability to work may well be impacted more by major depression than by the side-effects of ECT which can include memory problems. So, all depends on the type of work you are doing and balancing risk-benefit of depressionp of ECT. Many possibilities: Short term memory loss can be due to a variety of causes. In younger individuals where we are less concerned about dementia, the most common reason for the loss is stress.  Stress "occupies" our brain and some things don't "stick to our brain" as well as it should.  Older individuals need to be concerned about the possibility of dementia.  See your doctor if you continue to have memory issues.

Many causes possible: ButI always ask my patients in a psychiatric evaluation: were you ever a really good student in elementary school?  If so, most like it is not ADHD. Why? because ADHD shows up early in life  not later, say in middle school onwards.  In fact, the American Academy of pediatrics has pushed detection to include preschoolers. If affecting daily life, see a doc to rule out any physical issues first.

Topamax (topiramate): Usually topamax (topiramate) does not cause permanent brain damage or memory loss
when topamax (topiramate) washes out these side effects should usually go away.

I do not think: Of c diff per se.  However, any acute illness in an elderly patient can result in cognitive deficits.  If it is related to the stress of the illness and changes in routine it will likely improve as the patient does.

BP and short-term memory: Increasing damage to the brain blood vessels caused by untreated hypertension could eventually lead to memory loss because non-memory areas of the brain are not able to keep up.
