i have chondromalacia in rt. knee. i stepped off a platform and over extended it. very sharp pain. comes and goes now. x-rays ok. could it be a tare?

Knee pain: Certainly. Have a MRI to see. At age 60, anything can happen.

i have a sharp pain from my right knee shooting up to my groin feels like knee is popping as well that comes and goes.  should i seek attention?

Yes: You may benefit from seeing an osteopathic physician for consult. S/he can do a full osteopathic examination, and do a musculoskeletal examination of your knees and lower extremities are doing, and how stable your knee is in relation to your hips, pelvis, and lower back. The problem may be affecting your knees secondarily from somewhere else. Time to get relief, and get treated.

i had acl surgery about 4 weeks ago. i have this sharp pain at the surgical site right under my knee almost to my shin that comes and goes. any idea what it may be?

: If the surgical wound is completely healed and you have no problem with walking, I will suggest taking ibuprofen OTC 2-3 tablets with food every 6 hours as needed for one day and observe the pain. If pain persists after one day or get worse, you should call your orthopedist by then. If the wound is not healing completely and the knee is swollen, see your orthopedist right away.

hi doc. i'm a 26 year old female. have no history of injury. i recently started getting this sharp pain originating behind my knee and radiating down to my leg. no swelling, warmth, redness or tenderness behind the knee. it comes and goes without warning

Plantaris muscle : The plantaris muscle  starts just above the back of your knee and goes down to your Achilles tendon at the heel. It is right in the middle of your calf. It doesn't stretch well. If overstretched It could give symptoms similar to what you described. Stretching the calf muscles by letting heels drop with balls of feet on a step usually helps.

Pain under knee: Did they do an ultrasound or CT scan? Diagnosis can also depend on your weight, what is your diet like? What meds are you on? Please let us know to see if you need a more comprehensive work up.
