Anti-inflammatory: Sharp neck pain usually comes from a degenerative joint or disc in the neck.  Sometimes it's from a muscle strain or sprain.  Early treatment options include a short course of nsaids (advil, aleve), gentle massage, moist heat, and focusing on posture.  If pain lasts greater than 2 weeks see your physician.

Hard to say: As there are many different problems that can cause symptoms like your describe, but based on your age, it most likely is related increased tone/muscle spasm in one of the muscle of the neck.  You may consider gentle stretching and a hot pack to the area to see if it helps.  But if you developing shooting pains into the arms or weakness of the arms, stop and see your doc.

i have constant sharp pain on the left side of my neck. xrays show degenerative discs? c6-c7? doctor said osteoarthritis, which he also diagnosed on my tail bone. all of a sudden i can't sit for longer than ten min and my neck is in constant pain. i'm 42

Nerve compression: you need a cervical MRI . The deteriorated. Disc could be prssing on a nerve that supplies sensation to theside of your neck.  Osteoarthritis can also cause inflammation of tissues in the area. That may be causing the tailbone pain.  You may need anti inflammatory meds.  See a doc for a comprehensive evaluation including blood tests.

i have a sharp pain left side of neck that's on off. heat helps. posture and stretching seems to bring it on more. is this serious? i'm 18 and scared.

Unlikely: Many neck issues in your age group are brought on by poor posture esp slouching or lack of exercise. Use of. Computers, carrying a heavy backpack can also aggravate your neck and upper back muscles.  Try to look at your posture to make sure you sit and stand fully erect. That's a place to start.

GI: It could be a mild case of diverticulitis.....any fevers or chills? If you have been constipated, this could put you at risk for diverticulosis and subsequent diverticulitis.
