Doctor can evaluate: Many things are in the upper abdomen:  stomach, pancreas, liver, small intestine, gall bladder, large intestine, abdominal muscles, etc...  An exam by a primary care doctor can help figure things out. Pain in the right upper abdomen, plus symptoms that occur after eating, can be due to gallstones or other gall bladder disease. The stomach itself and the spleen are in the left upper abdomen.

Right upper: Right upper abdominal pain can be caused by gall bladder, liver or certain intestinal problems. However since your discomfort us quite positional it may be a muscular problem. I recommend that an abdominal surgeon examine you to check for hernia or other abnormalities. Appropriate tests will be ordered depending upon his/her assessment.

Any numbness?: WIth the sharp pain, do you have numbness, tingling, or burning in the chest or legs?  I would recommend an MRI of the spine and maybe of the brain to rule out inflammation.  These 2 symptoms aren't usually caused by a problem in only one area.  Probably best if you see your doctor to get checked out.

A doctor's examination is needed, unless the person is young and healthy, and pain is mild and resolves quickly. Possible causes include:  stomach acid reflux or ulcer symptoms, pancreatitis, liver or gallstone problems, abdominal muscle strains, some sort of hernia, intestinal cramps, skin pain sensations, etc...

I believe your doctor would consider evaluating your kidney, pancreas and look for any problem in your left side of the colon and many others . Need more info!: Abdominal pain can be an emergency to a mild problem. Let's begin by seeing your primary care doctor. I can't even recommend otc meds because: i don't know enough about your symptoms; i don't know if you have tried anything. The shortcut. See your doc. If you have none- a walk in clinic! but one thing. Pain near the belly button suggests a small intestinal cause!
