: Depending on the degree of needle penetration and potential injury to underlying muscle, as well as the effect of vigorous production of antibodies in response to the J&amp;J vaccine, pain will occur and may last for a week or so.  This will subside shortly, but if it persists, see your physician for an exam and treatment.

Armpit pain: Not uncommon, especially if hairy area. Results from irritation of hair follicles or blockage, usually from dampness or sweating.  Have it looked at.

Common: The armpit (axilla) has a lot going on in a small space...All the muscles, blood vessels, and nerves that connect the arm to the torso traverse this space, there are a lot of lymph nodes, plus there are many specialized skin glands.  Axillary pain can be related to any of these structures.  If there are no obvious "lumps" or areas of swelling, it is usually of musculoskeletal origin.

: Appears consistent with a shoulder joint problem.  See an orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated.

Emg testing by the neurologist will help determine the cause as well as imaging studies of the cervical spine and axilla.
Based on this, treatment can be tailored.

Worrisome numbness: you may need to have the device removed. At the very least you should notify the doctor that placed the device. If your symptoms persist or worsen such as chest pain or shortness of breath, you should go to an emergency room for a complete evaluation.

May be serious: How long have you had these symptoms and how severe are they?  If of recent onset and pain is 10 out 10, it is safest to go to the er or even to call 911.  If you have had these symptoms slowly progressing over a few months, then see your doctor.  Possible causes are broad depending on the rest of your symptoms and exam (aortic dissection, spinal stenosis, cardiac, lung, esophageal).

armpit pain and swollen, a week before this my massage therapist and i had frottage. is this a symptom of hiv?

Probably not: A painful swollen area in the armpit (axilla) is often due to a swollen lymph gland or an abscess( collection of infection and pus).  

Hiv can cause swollen lymph glands but they are usually non-tender. 

You should see your physician to examen the area.  If it is an abscess, a small incision, after numbing the skin, to let the pus drain will usually cure it.  Don't attempt to do this yourself!
