my neck is have very severe neck pain. my neck is very stiff. it lasted for 3 days.. went to the chiropractor and it went back to pain. what do i do?

See your doctor.: It is important for you to be seen by a physician.  Most causes of neck pain/stiffness are minor, but there are some that need treatment (for example meningitis).  A physician can figure out what is causing it.

Pain: May be a reaction to the nicotine or your head position, implying its from muscular spasm. Perhaps its your body telling you that you need to stop.

my 3 year old son has severe neck pain. this after trying to put the blanket over him last night it lifted one of his feet-immediately complained of pain. doesn't want to move, or sit up. no fever. when not moving, looks ok. what should i do?

More info: Neck pain is concerning because of worry for meningitis, but this is unlikely given lack of fever. Have the child lie flat on his back and bring his chin to his chest or bring his legs up. If these cause severe pain it may be worth a dr visit. If there has been any trauma go see a doctor.

See Osteopathic Dr.: Lots of poss causes:tumors, tight muscles, meningitis, vertebral problems, torn tendons & ligaments, etc.  If it's short-term, new onset w/ no fever or other symptoms-try otc pain relievers like Motrin and add heat/stretching. Otherwise, an osteopathic dr, is trained like an md to know all the other disease causes, but is also trained to do a hands-on exam to find/fix muscle/skeletal causes.

Exercise: A hep and stretching with neck strengthening is the best.  You  need to balance the anterior neck muscles with the posterior neck muscles.  Often , the posterior muscles are a lot stronger.  Stretching also helps with warm moist heat to relax the posterior, tighter muscles.  Sometimes, you may benefit from traction as directed by a therapist.  This depends on the cause of your pain.

Exercise, ice, heat: Gentle range of motion, stretching and walking or any low-impact cardiovascular exercise. Pain can be relieved  with over-the-counter medications like advil or aleve (naproxen). Ice for about 45 minutes will address inflammation and swelling, never apply ice to the skin, always over a towel or clothing. Follow this by heat for about 20 to 25 minutes to help soothe and relax tight muscles.  See doc if persist.

Yes it can: Yes it can either directly from the inflamed throat or from the enlarge lymph nodes in the neck that could accompany strep 
when the infection is treated the pain slowly will go away
