Systemic problems related to infection and medication side effects can cause headaches and should be evaluated by a health care provider.  Acute changes require more urgent attention.

Doctor shall examine: Most people have a headache at some time, such as from colds and flus, lack of sleep, too much driving, long hours on the computer, stress at work, etc... Some people try OTC options like Tylenol, Motrin, Aleve, Excedrin, or their generic brands. However, a "severe" headache, recurrent or weird headache, or one with other worrisome symptoms should be examined by a doctor.

Cause of headache: The best way to tackle a headache is to figure out what's causing it in the first place - is it a migraine, from not eating breakfast this am, from skipping a dose of a medicine, from not getting enough sleep?  There can be many reasons, and you can get the associated shoulder/neck pain.  Make sure you check it out with your doctor and get an accurate diagnosis.

Headache: A neurologist is best qualified to determine the type and cause of your prolonged headaches. Appropriate testing will be ordered and proper treatment begun. A normal MRI of the brain is reassuring, but it doesn't exclude muscle contraction tension headaches, migraine, temporal arteritis,glaucoma,etc. The headache may be referred from occipital nerve impingement at your neck which you're treating

Pain meds/Vist your : If you have any fever you should go see your docotr. Otherwise pain medicine will help your headache. For mild headache take tylenol (acetaminophen) 2 tabs every 6 hourly if needed, if this does not help after one or two doses, take Aspirin or ibuprofen(motrin or advil ) 2 tablets at a time, every 6-8 hourly for one or two days as needed.

Muscle spasms: This is most likely due to muscle spasms in the neck that travel up to the jaw muscles, especially the temporalis muscles on either side of your head that are large muscles that allow you to close your jaw. Keep your neck from extremes of cold especially. If it continues see a dentist about possible TMJ issues and maybe some physical therapy and muscle relaxant medications.
