Maybe: I do not know where it is located or how the hematoma occurred. Hematoma is a collection of blood  outside the vascular system. As the body resorbs it, the hematoma contents naturally liquefy and sometimes enlarges slightly. The fluid or seroma remaining then usually becomes resorbed and disappears.

i had a lumpectomy 4 yrs ago & developed a seroma after surgery & have had to have the fluid removed every year since.  why is this lasting so long?

Since the exact: cause of seroma formation is unknown , it is difficult to be able to reassure you as to how long fluid will have to be withdrown. There are a number of possible treatments with varying reports of success. 
Consult with an experienced Breast Surgeon for advice!

surgeon drained 500ml of thick red fluid from abdoman yet said it was a seroma is that correct  as the second time 140ml was dark brown in colour?

Seroma: Seroma after any surgery can occur. Stay with your surgeon and ask for the culture results and when the ultrasound will be done. Post operative seromas are frustrating, painful, occasionally become infected, usually resolve spontaneously or with office drainage. The seroma can take 2 to 8 weeks to resolve.

have lrg seroma after lap hernia sur.on 3/25 ultra sound showed fluid no pain or redness  dr said to put heat on it , what will the heat do for it ?

Resorb: The warmth helps the body resorb the old blood and fluid.
Time also helps
if it persists, or fever, chills, see the surgeon.
 Some need tap or drainage but best to let natural resorbtion.

had a lymph node removed in the groin. had a fluid filled sack form. surgeon said it was a seroma. got a 2nd opinion. surgeon said it was a lymphocele. do i have any treatment options? he gave me no treatment options and it's causing leg numbness?

6 weeks post left inguinal hernia op. lump, sore under incision. ct scan show trace free fluid in middle of pelvis & fat stranding/mild soft tissue thickening in left inguinal region. will this resolve & how? how long? also, had seroma which resolved?

Seroma: It is usually swelling at the area and sometimes some pain or a feeling of sloshing fluid and even sometimes leaking of clear fluid.

Fluid Collection: It is normal and expected for tissue fluid to seep into any open space that follows an operation--we call these fluid collections seromas.  In time, the fluid is absorbed and replaced by scar tissue.  Rarely, this fluid persists, requiring aspiration, or becomes infected, requiring drainage.  Bottom line:  99% of the time, no worries.

Radiation: Not sure of the question.  A seroma is simply a fluid collection, usually postoperative.
