uncomfortable to swallow, feels like pill stuck in back of throat. can clearly see epiglottis in back of throat sticking up. more saliva than normal.

Uvula not epiglottis: You may see your uvula but it is difficult to see epiglottis.  You have pain with swallowing.  Feels like something in your throat.  I would recommend drinking lots of fluids.  Get rest.  It may be allergies and post nasal drip.  See your doctor for pain after1 week or fevers and worsening.  Hope you feel better

Yes: Some people have a shallow throat or large epiglottis. As long as you are not having difficulty with breathing or swallowing there's nothing to worry about.

when i stick my tongue out i can see my epiglottis a little bit. i never noticed it before im breathing fine and all but i just was concerned about because i heard its difficult to see it. should i be concerned ?

You're Correct: It would be quite difficult for you to see it... but again, you just might be able to get a peek. No need for concern.

Dr. can check throat: Throat pain can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. Some people can normally see their epiglottis. Having a swollen epiglottis is a "call an ambulance" emergency.

is it normal for adults not to be able to see their epiglottis even when pushing their tongue down forcefully? i can't see mine at all, and is it possible for your epiglottis to go higher up or will it always stay at same height?

See below: Your not being able to see your epiglottis is not a disease or disorder. Epiglottis does move up and down with swallowing.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

i'm 18 and i can see my epiglottis. i've never seen it before. i had my tonsils removed when i was younger. is this normal?

i can suddenly see my epiglottis. i have not had any throat infections or throat injury. i have been looking at the back of my throat for years to check for tonsil stones and ive never seen my epiglottis. its a little unnerving.should i be worried?

: Not sure why you would be worried about seeing a normal part of your anatomy. Don't fret and don't be unnerved.

when i stick my tongue all the way out i can see very large bumbs in the back of my tongue and i can see my epiglottis. is that bad?

Accepted Answer

No: The bumps you see are likely  slightly enlarged vallate papillae which are normal. Further back there are lymphoid nodules - which if not painful, would again be no reason for concern.

hi, so today morning i woke up and noticed that i could see my epiglottis, and i started to freak out cause ive never noticed it before. it disappears and then pops up again after eating food. is this something i should be worried about?

: Epiglottis can sometimes be seen by opening the mouth wide and looking at the back of the throat. I am not sure if you saw that unless you are a doc. If you have no other symptoms nothing needs to be done. If you still worry go to your doc/ ent and have it checked
