my sebaceous cyst (ear lobe) has become inflamed in the middle of a course of antibiotics. is this normal and will the antibiotics get rid of the cyst?

Sebaceous cyst: Most sebaceous are without issue but if you start to have a flare up i would recommend going to see a physicians as it may need drainage due to trapped infection. A sebaceous cyst is usually  just trapped oil that usually would lubricate a hair follicle. They can be really painful and drainage may help the pain resolve faster. Often there is bacteria trapped w/in cyst and the antibiotics can't work.

my gp prescribed me antibios for abscess/sebaceous cyst behind ear now i have a large boil like lump on neck. what does this mean?

Go back to doctor: Without being able to see this there is no way in which to diagnose. Go back and let your doctor decide.

think i have 2 sebaceous cysts 1 next to ear 1 just above ear they won't go away keep getting enlarged is there something i can do at home to get rid ?

Removal by MD: Unfortunately sebaceous cysts tend to re-occur when drained or squeezed. They might also get infected this way. The best approach is complte surgical excision of them. Please consult with a Facial Plastic Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon, or Dermatologist. Hope this helps.

Irritant?: More likely an irritant reaction or less likely infection from the material you used for the bleaching . An allergic reaction usually occurs from 1-3 days after the contact and is usually itchy.

Neither: Your immunity is fine and sebaceous cysts aren't a hereditary disorder, many people get them, ask your doctor about surgical removal and possibly tissue pathology examination, if your doctor thinks it's important, otherwise don't worry

Black? Keloid?: If you have pigmented skin (asian, hispanic, black), you may have a keloid, and need infections of steroids to make it go down. Go see a plastic surgeon.

Sebaceous Cysts: Sebaceous cysts are collections of sebum that occur within a gland. They can be walled (completely within the gland) or ruptured (when the gland pops). Sometimes they will drain spontaneously, are lanced or are surgically removed. Surgical removal is the best way to prevent recurrence. Some people are prone to these and will form multiple sebaceous cysts. The scalp is a common area for this.

Call the surgeon: There is always some pain/dicomfort after a sugical procedure and the doc who did your surgery should be best person to manage your pain--he/she knows what was done. It is expected that you will have some pain, but if it is excessive or worsening, consult doc for eval as there is chance of infection etc...Tylenol/motrin may help ease the discomfort untill seen by doc. Good luck.

Drain it: Either bring it to "head" with warm packs or have it opened.
Removal of the cyst wall is the definitive treatment.
