Would not : Remember the old adage of rubbing salt in a wound?
Use only saline if you use a salt containing product but clear clean water  is the best. Mild cleansing with mild soap and water will help keep the bacterial load down.  See your doctor for complete care.

my 3 1/2 years old son woke up with puffy/swollen eyes but no pain. he took sea salt & baking soda bath the night before. could it b the cause?

Puffy eye lid: His puffy eyes could be due irritation from the salt &amp; baking soda, why did use it ? But edema of the eyes could be due to allergies  also &amp; lf associated with swelling of hands, feet or scrotum it is a more urgent  problem . In either case he has to be checked by his doctor  or in ER . Good luck

my eyes are watery. i see some oily substances on my iris (inside tear film) and they move up when i blink. sometime it was uncomfortable and i needed to wash my eyes to clear it up but it come back shortly. is this viral conjunctivitis?

: Usually with any type of conjunctivitis, including viral, allergic or bacterial, the eye would also be red. The only way to know what is wrong is for a doctor to look at it. You should call your doctor or do a video consult on HealthTap. An in-person eval may be necessary if it is difficult to see on video. Artificial tears may be helpful-1 drop 3-4x daily. If it doesn’t clear up, see your doctor.

Viral: Homeopathic works as well as what you are on. Ice compress too. If vision decreases then there may be a place for topical steroids.

No: Most cases of conjunctivitis are self-limited (meaning they end whether or not they are treated).  Keeping your eyes closed may make them feel better, but this will not help your infection get better.

Yes: Conjunctivitis comes in many varieties.  Some forms only have watery eyes, without them becoming stuck together.

Not really: Conjunctivitis is a symptom of an underlying problem.  If keeping the eye closed is more comfortable then that is ok but there is no real need.  Sometime things like a corneal abrasion which causes eye redness can be help with patching but in general, it's best to keep the eye open.
