You can discuss this with a pain management specialist who can help you to manage the medications in addition to instructing you on other recommendations

If one has chronic pain for years and having daily crying, it woudl be wise to get second opinions, maybe psychiatric consultation, or if antidepressants or pain managment is being done on its own, involving a clinical psychologist to boost depression treatment and behavioral pain mgt.

Physical therapy: I am not a big proponent of using nsaids in an 83 year old. I would give physical therapy a try first.
