Probably not: Itching in previous scars is very common. I suggest you call your doctor for an examination and possibly a mammogram or ultrasound.

Improve not remove: Some scars can be improved with wound care, exfoliation, dermabrasion, peels, laser, grafting, fat transfer, camouflage make-up, surgery and more. However they generally cannot be removed. Discuss the best type of reduction scars prior to surgery and methods to minimize the incisions. After surgery, i commonly advise paper tape for 4 mos + silicone gel.

Scarring: That depends.  Everyone heals differently and some people may be prone to keloid scarring, which may not resolve over time.

s/p breast reduction 5 yrs. mammo last year said post operative changes. this year i lost over 50 lbs i feel tiny firm round lump. in right side, could it be scar tissue and because i lost weight i now can feel it? not time for mammo yet.

Breast lump: Breast lump in any adult women Should be examined by a physician to determine if further testing is recommended to check for cancer or infection. Mammograms do not detect 20% of breast cancers So there’s no substitute for a doctors examination and diagnosis and recommendations

Gynecomastia : Gynecomastia is male breast enlargement due to glandular over growth. Generally the fibrous glandular tissue is not amenable to suction removal. Breast enlargement caused by fatty deposits may be removed by suction techniques.
You must be examined and counseled by someone you feel comfortable talking to.
Male breast cancer occurs in 1% of all breast cancers, so one sided enlargement should not be ignored.

Months: Numbness post surgery is very common.  Depending on the amount of tissue removed during your breast reduction, numbness may last up to 6 months.  Some areas of numbness will never recover normal sensation.  Approximately 15% of women post reduction mammoplasty have decreased nipple sensitivity that will remain permanent.  Discuss with your breast surgeon.

No easy answer: Not sure what you mean by "firm up".  Breast reduction is usually a very satisfying surgery for women that have long been bothered by disproportionately large, heavy and hanging breasts.  It can be difficult to maintain fullness in the upper breast. Occasionally breast implants are indicated either at the same time or later.  
Restoring some of the lost volume may help.

Time: Unfortunately, there's not much to do other than wait.  Nerve healing is slow, and it may take 12 - 18 months for them to fully heal.  Fortunately, most people do get their sensation back after this operation.

would a woman loose sensitivity after a breast reduction surgery?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: With a breast reduction surgery there is a chance that the nerves around the nipple can suffer some trauma that can cause either a temporary or even permanent loss of sensation (numbness). Only time will tell whether this is permanent or not.
