Derm: Difficult issue. There is medicine that can help diminish scars. Seeing a plastic surgeon may help but could be costly so it depends on that issue. Otherwise, scarring and the problems associated with it are difficult.

recently noticed a lump right above belly button, feels as though it extends down to pubic area. had a tummy tuck 3 years ago so not sure if it's scar tissue from muscle repair or something else. its bothersome and numb.

Could be. : Could Just be scar tissue or could be something more sinister like a hernia. Best to go back to your ‘tummy tuck’ doctor and have him/her evaluate.

Expensive: Some lazers are out there nowadays for scar removal but generally these are out of pocket, cosmetic procedures. I would speak to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon locally to see what they can offer you.

Not much.: Keloids are over-agressive scar formation caused by irritation and inflammation in a genetically-specific individual. Keloids are more common in dark-skinned races, but are seen in small percentages of all races. Steroid injections can help, but scar excision often causes a larger keloid. Radiation and other measures might be recommended. See an abps-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Tholen.

Likely from infancy: Probably for correction of congenital problem such as omphalocele, gastroschisis or exstrophy. I which case a pediatric surgeon, pediatric urologist or plastic surgeon could book this as a revision of original problem ; would be covered by medical insurance. Not sure about nhs in uk. A faux belly button could be made at same time. Enquire at great ormond st. Children's hospital in london.Good luck.

Sounds like: Keloid or at least hypertrophic scar.  Excision, steroid injection, topical radiation are alternatives.  Consult with your surgeon or a dermatologist for specific recommendation.

a year ago i was bitten by what i think was a deer tick in my belly button. i have a scar. occasionally the area swells and itches. is this normal?

Not really: What you describe sounds fairly mild (occasional swelling and itching), but it is not normal.  Typically if the "bite" was infected, the symptoms would not be so intermittent, and it would be tender. However, "something" is irritating your skin.  Since it has been going on for a year now, it may be time to see your Dr or a dermatologist the next time it swells up.  (I wouldn't go when it's normal)

its been 11 wks since csection and bowels still hurt. bms are normal, not painful, but a lot of discomfort in area between belly button and scar. ?

Follow up visit: It is not clear what is meant by your bowels hurting. At 11 weeks postop typically the surgical recovery is complete. See your obgyn for a detailed history and physical exam to help narrow down the possible causes and find a solution
