Not much.: Keloids are over-agressive scar formation caused by irritation and inflammation in a genetically-specific individual. Keloids are more common in dark-skinned races, but are seen in small percentages of all races. Steroid injections can help, but scar excision often causes a larger keloid. Tend to recur: If your umbilical piercing has resulted in a true keloid scar, i would recommend removing it to prevent further growth of the scar. Keloids are notoriously difficult to treat and require surgical debulking, steroid injections and occasionally radiation therapy. If you have a hypertrophic scar, which is less bulky, you might try changing switching the piercing to 14k gold.
