Unusual: Unless your scalp is exposed to chemicals or solvents , it is not likely an irritant dermatitis.  If your scalp itches, then it is more likely a contact allergy. I would consider changing shampoo (Free &amp; Clear) and condition.  A short course of topical cortisone scalp solution may help calm the scalp down to prevent you from scratching it. Hair dye is a potential contact allergen also

Dermatitis: You should see your doctor about it, there are prescription foams you can apply to soothe the scalp.

Allergens: Allegic dermatitis will result in a positive patch test. Irritant dermatitis will not elicit a possible allergy test. Allergy testing requires 2-3 days to elicit a reaction.

See dermatologist: Whenever a rash is spreading and becoming very painful (unless deeply scratched), it is an alarming sign and you need to see a dermatologist ASAP.  If the rash is confined to only one vertical half of the body, then I would suspect shingles. If it is widespread, it needs be examined and treated ASAP.

See doc.: you need to see a dermatologist or allergist to be tested in order to determine the exact cause. sometimes, in certain cases, injections might be beneficial.

: Didn't your doctor help you after making the diagnosis? Please call your doc for further advice and you will likely need med, either topical or oral, if scalp oozing is diffused. Good luck.
