Possible: Malar ("butterfly") rash could be caused by contact dermatitis, for instance due to cosmetic products. However, malar rash, particularly when very sensitive to the sun, can be a feature of lupus or other autoimmune diseases. Usually other symptoms and lab abnormalities would be present, so you should be evaluated for the rash by your doctor.
