Shortness of breath: Simply put, it is a respiratory illness caused by a virus ( a coronavirus);  there was an outbreak in 2002-2003, mostly in China, however there was cluster in Toronto as well.
WHO defines it fever + cough/ shortness of breath + infiltrates on x ray.  Basically a pneumonia caused by a specfic virus.  Blood tests confirming presnece of virus/ virus antibodies are also necessary.

Novel coronavirus : SARS or severe acute respiratory syndrome was an explosive outbreak of adult respiratory distress syndrome that started in Hong Kong in 2003.  Within weeks of the outbreak it was determined that SARS was caused by a novel coronavirus.  It was found that this virus infected civets and horseshoe bats which were the zoonotic natural reservoirs.

Unusual presentation: The prodrome is often somewhat prolonged, lasting for three to seven days and is characterized by fever (temperature ≥100.5ºf [>38ºc]) malaise, headache, and myalgias. At the end of this prodrome, the respiratory phase begins with a nonproductive cough, and may lead to dyspnea and resp failure.

SARS-CoV-2: I am not aware of any current respiratory panels that include SARS-CoV-2.  There are usually different corona viruses but not for COVID -19. Hopefully, one will become available.

It depends: Impaired gas exchange would generally be a late feature of the disease, calling for critical care.  It very much depends on the particular virus on how aggressive it is. The same is true for how long it takes for recovery.  Younger patients, in general, have better prognosis.

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, antibody to SARS CoV-2 are usually not helpful. "High" levels are not a cause for concern.
