my wife has gotten some rashes for a week. they are like flea bites but i dont think they are because we didnt see any of them. what is it?

You : You might want to see your physician soon.  It sounds a little bit like scabies. This could be contagious.  If this turns out to be true, everyone in the household will need to be treated.

Could Be, but..: To help you i would need a few more clues.  Right now i would say it could be a lot of things.  As a general rule if its dry its okay to put hydrocortisone,  but if it looks damp lotrimin (clotrimazole) to start.  Could be eczema, could be tinea and the treatments for either could make the other worse.  I would suggest a visit to your pcp, or a dermatologist.

See Specialist: Given the persistence of your rash I would make an appointment to see an Allergist or Dermatologist to further clarify what could be causing your symptoms. There are many causes of persistent rash including eczema, contact dermatitis, scabies, hives, etc. Without seeing your rash in person it is difficult to determine appropriate treatment. Try OTC topical corticosteroid cream in the meantime.

Probably not: The bites from insects, if the body reacts to the bite, should cause an inflammatory reaction within a few hours to a day most often.

Though they are not always seen in the unite states of america, these sand fleas are not a rare find in the caribbean. It is those people who have visited the caribbean and returning home, who are carriers of these pests.

Up to you: If you are allergic to the bites, then they will itch for weeks.  If you scratch them, they will itch until you quit scratching them.  They can cause hard bumps called nodules if you continue to rub or scratch.  Also, are the fleas still around?  Other bites can look like flea bites and last a long time, such as scabies and other mites.  Hydrocortisone cream and oral Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will help the itch.
