The blood within the sinuses may clog up with clotting or thrombosis.  This is usually due to severe dehydration or infection that inflames the sinus tracts.  Certain blood disorders such as sickle cell raise the risk.

If no bleeding complications, blood thinner is added as well as IV steroids, & surgical drainage; if bleeding, no blood thinner is used. —>.
