Liposuction cost: A general idea of liposuction cost is $1500 per area for the surgeons's fee. Each area takes approximated 1-2 hours of or time. The or /anesth component cost associated with lipo is usually calculated by the hour.  A very rough idea for total or cost is $750/hour.

Costs do vary dramatically per geographic region. However, the above should give you a very general idea.

Tumescent: Liposuction is a procedure to permanently remove fat and improve shape and proportion. Tumescent refers to the solution injected into the fat prior to removal. It is a mixture to decrease pain and blood loss during the procedure. Liposuction may be performed while you are awake or additional sedation can be used.

A : A few factors come into play in determining the best answer to your question.

Lidocaine toxicity: most surgeons will limit the amount of Lidocaine given to 35mg to 50mg per kg of patient weight; this will limit the number of body areas that can be anesthetized.  If a patient is under IV sedation, then the Lidocaine tumescent fluid can be diluted and placed in more body areas.

Safe fat removal: many surgeons will limit the amount of fat removal to under 5 liters in a single session if a patient is being treated as an outpatient.  If larger volumes are removed, it would be safest to be observed in an inpatient setting after the procedure.  This is significantly influenced by the age, weight, bmi, and health status of a patient.

For the average overweight (bmi 25-30) patient, 5 body areas are what can typically be treated in a single session.

You : You can prepare ahead of time by getting your medications and bandages that you'll need.  Getting meals prepped for a couple of days can also be helpful.  Make sure that you get your post-op instructions well ahead of time so you can be ahead of the game.

Plastic Surgeon: You should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. He will be able to guide you as to which procedure is best for you. I use tumescent, vaser, and laser (smartlipo) liposuction techniques. I think that smartlipo is great for the arms, neck, and abdomen. Vaser is great for the back and breast. Tumescent liposuction is great for all the other areas. An experienced surgeon is best.
