my mom in hospital 30 days.  signs, symptoms of peptic ulcer's.   ruptured.  bleed to death there.  it was known but not mentioned.  avoidable.  why was surgery, treatment, advising not done?  thanks.

I am very sorry: I am truly so sorry for your loss. Understanding why may help ease the hurt, anger. Active bleeding ulcers can have a 10-14 percent mortality, & esophageal perforation, producing even greater rates. Medicine that prevent bleeding from stopping, such as motrin, don't help the situation. Making sure nothing congenital present, like a bleeding disorder, may help prevent this tragedy from recurring.

Cyst?: Do you mean ovarian cyst? There is no such thing as an ovarian ulcer. An ovarian cyst resolves when it ruptures.

how are ulcers cured!! i can no longer stayd the pain and am hung to die from pain of not eating i had an aunt die of a ruptured ulcer and don't want?

Diagnosis: First requirement is accurate diagnosis.  If this is confirmed ulcer, is H. pylori present? (May need anti-biotics).  Also, ask your Dr. to consider a PPI (like priolosec or nexium) to reduce acid production in the stomach.  May need an endoscopy to verify status of condition.   Of course, avoid acidy foods and beverages..  Time to heal may be months.., although relief will come sooner w care

Yes: Bleeding  duodenal ulcers are caused by the ulcer eroding through the back wall into the gastroduodenal artery. Perforations in the front part of the duodenum or stomach usually cause free air with intense pain, but usually do not bleed significantly.

Not really: The old scar tissue may make any future surgeries somewhat more difficult. Glad you're better.

It depends: It depends on the potential cause, size, location and other factors (infectious vs non-infectious causes).  You need to see your primary doctor ASAP, who will determine if you need any diagnostic testing in addition to medical treatment.  You may also end up needing a GI referral, depending on the findings and recommendation of your doctor.

Upper abdominal pain: Epigastric pain is the most common symptom of both gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is characterized by a gnawing or burning sensation and occurs after meals—classically, shortly after meals with gastric ulcer and 2-3 hours afterward with duodenal ulcer. Food or antacids relieve the pain of duodenal ulcers but provide minimal relief of gastric ulcer pain.
