However, scrp is only a small part of periodontal therapy, aiming to restore your periodontal support (bone, periodontal ligament, and cementum) through regeneration and/or repair.  Must predict the outcome!

It is however not a one and done thing. Your homecare has to be thorough and effective to prevent this from building up again.

Perfectly ok: Scaling and root planning are part of initial periodontal therapy and is done on mainly on exposed root surfaces and those just above the periodontal attachments. Crowns, if in good condition, would not effect the outcome of the scaling and root planning. Your mouth and gum will be healthier for the treatment! General vs specific.: Root scaling is a process whereby built up plaque is scraped of with a fine tool from the enamel of the tooth, generally by a dental hygienist, or dentist.  Debridement is a general term for surgically cleaning of a any wound, any place in the body at all levels of skin. For example, there are 4 stages of pressure sores: stage i-4, depending on the depth (3 goes to mm, 4 to bone). Deep ones-debride.

Big difference.: Deep cleaning is scaling and root planning, which is treatment for gum disease with pockets deeper than 3-4mm. It takes more than one visit and costs considerably more. When indicated, it is absolutely necessary. Full mouth debridement is usually when someone hasn't had a cleaning in a while and during the initial hygiene visit, the tartar above the gum line is removed. Srp may be required next.

Not really: 4-5mm pockets is not good but at the same time it is treatable and can be made healthy with scaling and root planning. Sometimes p;acement of antibiotics into the gums also helps. But periodontal disease is stubborn so you may need multiple treatments to get this under control. Also make sure you have excellent hygiene at home, otherwise the time spent treating will be a waste.

Scaling\Root Planing: Most patients have this done with local anesthesia and therefore feel nothing during the procedure. Some slight sensitivity of the teeth and slight soreness of the gums may be expected short term afterwards.
