Perhaps: Both can be simple things to give support while resting. Both are passive, so by themselves, they may not be enough. Stay physically active. Regular exercise (aerobic, stretching, strengthening) is good for general health, and good for spinal health.

Computer chair: One with a good lumbar support. Keep the spine straight. Avoid bending forward while seated. Follow the rule of 10. Every 10 min get up for at least 10 sec. There are timer freewares available for download to remind you to get up. Also good for your eyes. There is no activity that can not wait for 10 sec!

Seated low back pain: One sided low back pain coming on in the seated position as described can be from disc injury irritating a nerve root, sacroiliac joint, iliolumbar ligament, etc...Sitting places significant force across discs of the low back & sitting in the position described, maximally loads the joints & ligaments connecting the lumbar spine to the hip. Stay active, stretch, swim, yoga, pt, chiro, injections..

What : What is concerning is that your pain apparently radiates down your back, into your legs and feet and you notice numbness.  Are you experiencing weakness of your legs? Do you have difficulty passing your urine or is it hard to get your urinary stream going? Have you had any episodes of urinary incontinence (wetting on yourself)? Are you having difficulty with passing feces?  If your pain is severe or you find that your bowel or bladder are not functioning correctly, recommend that you either contact your doctor right away or that you go to the emergency room.  Nerves coming off your spinal cord may be getting compressed.  It can be a medical emergency if the nerves at the bottom of your spinal canal get compressed. Take care of your self.

Yes: Great questions.  A  major reason why patients do not improve is due to sitting and posture issues (even as i sit here working on the computer, i can feel myself slouching in the chair!)  an ergonomic chair is excellent.
