Swelling..: After this type of injection you may get swelling under the skin but does not mean the medication stays there, the body absorbs the medication. Try icing the area and if you develop a rash or the swelling gets worse follow up with your doctor.

Alternatives exist: There are alternative treatments for this STD based on the drug allergies of the person treated which will cure the infection. We call them 2nd line drugs not because they are weak but just not in our front line protocol.

UTI: Rocephin (ceftriaxone) - Ceftriaxone - is a parenteral antibiotic, only can be given IV or IM.  Most simple UTIs need only an oral antibiotic, and 3 days is often enough.  Usually, there would be no indication for a parenteral antibiotic unless you have a complicated and/or resistant infection.  In that case, you may need a longer course of treatment, too.

However, I would not hesitate to take ceftriaxone if it is the appropriate medication
