? related but doubt: direct cause/effect.  Depression and other problems treated with Effexor (venlafaxine) often comes with extra "stuff" in terms of abnormal physical phenomena.  Our current understanding of this is chicken vs egg.   I suspect the problem(s) you have suffered that have required Ritalin and Effexor (venlafaxine) are much more directly related to your symptoms and not having taken meds.  Concerned that depression/anxiety present

Possibly: Strattera (atomoxetine)'s mode of action is like that of the tricyclic antidepressants.  As a result it might have a positive effect on anxiety .  It might make your inattentiveness better, especially if the anxiety is contributing.

Speak to your doctor about Strattera (atomoxetine) and stopping Ritalin if it is making your anxiety symptoms worse.

The diagnosis and management of ADHD is not easy. I recommend you spend a few $./yen and get a subscription to uptodate for a month and both of you read all about ADHD.  Then discuss your questions with his treating Dr(s).  Then you all together put a plan of action that best fits your situation.  Then give a try. Will take time to work out.
