May need retreatment: Ring worm (aka tinea corporis), a fungal infection of the  skin can be very difficult to get rid of.  The area remaining hyperpigmented for as long as 3 years, and that it still itches occasionally, are suggestive that the infection was suppressed but never completely erradicated. Consistent use of a topical antifungal cream until 1-2 weeks after pigmentation returns to normal may cure it.

Watch closely: Most over the counter products - athlete's foot cream like Lotrimen - are reasonably effective for a single small body ringworm. But, as with any rash, if it doesn't respond to treatment over a period of a week consider having a medical professional look at it. It may be something other than a fungal (ringworm) infection.

Protean Symptoms: Commonly urticaria is a pruritic lesion that is transient & characterized by a wheal & flare response to some trigger. Acanthosis nigricans, usu not transient, can be associated diabetes (and some believe w an internal malignancy) found on intertriginous areas. Finally an infectious process may present w generalized skin lesions (syphillis, rickettsia, measles, etc). See your md/do.

Post inflammatory: Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a common and normal response during the healing process.  When traumatized or infected skin heals, redness followed by dark discoloration often occurs.  With time, the site will usually resume normal coloration to match the surrounding skin.  Normalization may happen faster with good skin care with hypoallergenic washes and moisturizers.

Ringworm : No scarring should occur with treatment for ringworm so it could be post inflammatory reaction which will resolve over time
