do i have ibs? i've had diarrhea for 2 wks interrupted 4 3 days by constipation. i have sharp pain in the lar. int/stomach area + gassiness/belching.

You could but...: You could have IBS but I suggest you see your doctor to rule out any other causes for your symptoms.  Other causes include infection, inflammatory bowel disease, or even possibly a ulcer.  Good luck.

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

does fiber cause gassiness? i rarely passed gas, always was constipated. since eating fiber. taking fiber supplements as well. i'm extra gassy every day and going poop every day. i know pooping every day is good but is gassinesss serious?

: Intestinal gas includes the air you swallow during feeds/drinking. Add carbonation from beverages. Then add the gas caused by gut germs feeding on digestive debris. By itself it is just a reflection of these contributors and not a disease. A food diary may help you decide that some foods make you gassier. These you can avoid. Taking probiotics can change your gut germs and help you be less gassy.

can symptoms of appendisitis last a few days to weeks? had ultrasound earlier, everything looked okay but now lower right side is tender when pressed but otherwise fine. comes and goes. have been having diarrhea and constipation, trouble passing gas?

Yes: Constipation can cause that pain and pressure, bloating and passing gas that you describe. Try eating a lot of fruits and veggies for roughage and drinking 64 ounces of water. If that does not work natural calm works probably the best that I have found. It has magnesium in it and you can start with a teasoon and work up to the amount that works for you and it will keep you regular and feeling good.

Possible IBS: Non specific Abdominal pain with  Bloating in healthy person like yourself without Bloody diarrhea, Weight loss, Fever,and change in appetite could be due to IBS. This is usually related to Stress. You may want to try Gluten Free diet for short time . If that fails try Lactose Free (avoid Milk and Milk Product) diet. Probiotics helps. Consult  doctor for additional  investigation.

Wait between eating : Best to wait between eating, and exercising vigorously. You need to make sure that your food is digested, and not exercise vigorously using your muscles, because then you are directing the blood flow to go from your muscles instead of your stomach to digest your food. This can cause cramping, and gastric indigestion, and the symptoms you mention. Have your physician confirm.

YES: Constipation results in a buildup of feces in your body, the bulk of which is bacteria, which produce gas as they digest the waste from your bowels. More stool=more bacteria=more gas,  as you have noticed! more frequent bowel motions decrease the gas (and odor) so get on a good diet and use softeners--discuss with your doctor if you need help.

No known disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disorder causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber plus water, Miralax (polyethylene glycol), Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe helpful meds too.
