Head does not need to be shaved to cure lice.Nits can live for 2 weeks. Vacuum your child's room. Soak combs/brushes for 1 hour in anti-lice solution. Wash sheets, blankets, stuff animal in hot water or seal in plastic bag x 2wk.

If you have already attempted otc medication, and the infestation continues, it may be time to consult a physician for a stronger prescription medication. Certainly useful is the meticulous removal of nits with a metal (not plastic) comb (brand name licemeister comb gets the best reviews). All family members should be treated at same time.
