Reflux med dose: Reflux medication doses are calculated on baby's weight. During the first several months after birth, weight gain is dramatic and they can quickly outgrow the dose if it is not adjusted periodically (usually every 1-2) months.

It may make it worse: Tobacco smoke causes relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, and marijuana smoke, though not as potent at doing this, may also lower the pressure and increase the likelihood and severity of reflux.

Let me explain: 1- antacids, such as maalox, mylanta.
2- medications to reduce acid production(pepcid)
3- medications that block acid production and heal the esophagus.(prevacid (lansoprazole) 24hours).
4-prescription-strength h-2-receptor blockers.( (tagamet)
5- prescription-strength proton pump inhibitors.(nexium)

: No, this won't show up. But it probably wouldn't affect your insurance if they learn you are taking such a drug.

Maybe,maybe not: You are likely to see a return of sx within days.I find most reflux peaks at about 4 mo and settles down after 6 m. Eliminating the day dose for a week followed by the evening dose ( if a 2x day preparation) is often easier on baby. Either way, most can get off meds by 7-9m at the latest.

even when not suffering from flu or hay-fever i cough a lot. i'm on asthma and acid reflux medication, it helps but doesn't take it away.

Chronic Cough: A chronic cough lasts longer than 8 weeks (adults) /4 weeks (kids). Common causes include asthma, allergies, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or bronchitis. It can also be caused by post nasal drip, blood pressure meds, bronchiectasis or heart disease. Follow up with Dr who prescribed the meds and explain that the cough is not getting better. They will do more testing/ adjust meds/add new.

why do none of the heartburn/reflux medications ever work? ive taken prilosec, protonix, prevacid, pepcid, tums &now im on nexium. i took 40mg before i ate breakfast & 20mg pepcid before i ate dinner. im still constantly getting heartburn & reflux?

Maybe: Iron is better absorbed in an acidic environment. Antacids raise the ph of the stomach. It is possible that iron deficiency anemia may develop.

Why stop?: You could reduce the amount of spicy food, chocolate, or alcohol that you consume, and this may reduce the need for acid reflux medication.  You may notice other foods or large quantities that cause acid reflux. Calcium, magnesium, and other acid neutralizer medications may have a rebound effect and require frequent use.  You should see a doctor and discuss medication and surgical treatments.
