That depends: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician & get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.

Probably not: Papaya enzymes appear to be of digestive kind and i see no way of them reducing ENT inflammation.

Sore?: Is it a sore throat or just red?  Give it a couple more days then see your doctor if not better.

Diet v meds: Mild symptoms can be managed by avoiding acidic or spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, not eating 3-4 hours before bed, and eating smaller meals.  If these measures don't help then otc antacids such as ranitidine or omeprazole.  If not better in 4 weeks see md.

my throat is inflamed and i don't know why however it seems as if when i clear my throat of hack up mucus then it gets worse, could the inflammation b permnant?

Post nasal drip: You may have a post nasal drip that may be caused by an allergy. Consult your doctor he may want to refer you to an allergist. In the meantime take antihistamines before bedtime, .

Imaging: I do not know of a single X-ray of the sinuses and throat, though the areas could be imaged with several separate X-rays. Plain X-rays tend to be less specific in diagnosing particular issues than CT scans, which could actually encompass both areas. Inflammation is a tissue reaction, most commonly in response to infection or trauma. On a plain X-ray, it would manifest itself as tissue thickening.

Dr. can re-check: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from other causes such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. A rapid test swab can detect strep in 5 minutes. One must be sure to tell the doctor if any oral sex activities.

Need for examination: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. You would need a doctor to order blood tests anyway, so please see your doctor for an evaluation and proper selection of tests based on findings from history and physical findings.

how long after being put on an oral steroid should you be checked to see if inflammation has went away. my son has eoe. is there anyway to be checked without the scope being shoved down his throat?

: I do not know what EoE is. Never use abbreviations in Medicine. Can be deadly.   Get back with us with more info. How much does you son weigh and what was dose and name of steroid. You cannot give us too much info.!

One possibility: A common cause of throat soreness without evidence of infection is gerd or gastroesophageal reflux disease, a fancy name for heart burn. "silent gerd" can happen at night time when gravity isn't keeping stomach acid in your stomach it can travel up into your throat and cause irritation. An acid blocker like ranitidine or Pepcid (famotidine) taken before bed might be good to try.
