why is my acne wash giving me a rash and making my face and neck turn red?

Sensitive skin: Some people have sensitive skin and will get irritated with acne creams/gels and with acne washes. If a doctor prescribed the treatment, the doctor can adjust the amount of treatment. If the medications are all over-the-counter, one can try using them less frequently to see if the skin quickly improves and loses the irritated, reddened appearance. If not improving, a doctor should evaluate.

my son is 13yrs old. he started having teen acne 2mos. ago. treated it with neutrogena oil free acne wash pink grapefruit, clean and clear advantage acne spot treatment & acne spot patches. now pimples are gone, it left red spots. what can i use?

: If there are no pustules, keep the skin clean with an acne face wash and apply a topical acne medication available over the counter. The areas treated tend to fade but new lesions may appear. Heat rash: This could be due sweating but in an adult one possibility is pityrisporum folliculitis.  Try a wash with sal acid if this does not help try otc lotrimen cream.

Depends: What are you using?  Are you scrubbing? If you are don't . If you are using the wash twice a day cut back to once a day. You should be using a moisturizer that has the word non-comedogenic .Moisturizing might seem wrong to your head if you have acne but it is a very important step in daily skin care.

Can you clarify?: This is very weak stuff and if you're still having acne, move to something stronger. Salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and/or retinoic acid are your best friends. If they don't clear you in a few weeks, or if you have severe acne or it's on your trunk, your physician can add something stronger that will work. Best wishes.

It may...: The idea of using grapefruit or vitamin c seems rather interesting to me as a compounding skincare specialist. Make sure they use natural grapefruit extract, organic if available, but not some artificial chemical that makes it smell like grapefruit! for acne, you need to find a wash that works well for you. I recommend using the skin clear wash from cosmo grade.

It is possible.: Depending on the active ingredient and strength of that ingredient, you can typically use medicated acne washes once daily. I recommend my patients use them in the shower. If you are becoming overly dry or irritated, decrease the frequency to every other day.
