both my children have red bumps on their upper body's front and back and they itch. it has been there for 2 weeks what is it? i have tried benadryl (diphenhydramine) and changing washing detergant, but it's not getting better

A : A rash with raised red bumps is called a maculopapular rash and can be caused by many, many things such as: 
-food or drug allergy 
-viral infections such as fifths disease, roseola, ebv, CMV just to name a few 
-insect bites such as fleas or scabies 
-bacterial infection such as scarlet fever (caused by strep) 
-medication reaction

or it can be seen in very rare things such as: 
-measles 
-toxic shock syndrome 
-kawasaki disease 
-meningitis 
-stevens-johnson syndrome 
-rocky mountain spotted fever disease

the list goes on and on.

The best thing to do is to call your child's doctor. They may want to take a look to see what it may be.

Dermatitis: There are many causes of itchy skin rash; there is no way to even guess. Probably not serious, but see your doctor and take it from there. Or see a dermatologist.

? hives: Can be due to something you ate or a medicine received, also some acute virus infection would cause this, or no reason at all,you can try an OTC antihistamine, unless contraindicated, if no improvement see your doctor

Bedbugs is serious: Both scabies and bedbugs are common hygienic problems nowadays. There is a possibility that rash you have doesn't fit to one particular diagnosis. The scabies is very easier to treat with the meds, your doctor prescribed.  The bedbugs don't live on humans,  infestation is much more serious problem. Look along mattress seams, baseboards, behind head boards, ceiling/wall junctions, person. Belonging.

Skin bumps: Very hard to answer without getting details, about location, type of bumps, and duration and also without visualization.  If this in a in patchy area and itching could be eczema or if in areas exposed as hands contact dermatitis.

Many possibilities: If the rash is itching, and the bumps come and go, hives or urticaria is likely and antihistamines are the treatment (diphenhydramine or benadryl). Many other causes of rash with bumps are possible, may need evaluation by your physician.

See a doctor: There are quite some rashes a baby can have. It's impossible for any doctor to diagnose a rash without looking at it either. Please bring your baby to the pediatrician.
