"personal lubricant": A personal lubricant did not cause bacterial vaginosis, as it is made sterile by the manufacturer.  Metrogel is not the same consistency as most "personal lubricants", but likewise, will not cause bacterial vaginosis.  Infections requiring antibiotics for treatment are usually transmitted by sexual contact.

Suppressive meds: 1 in 10 women will experience recurrent bacterial vaginosis.  Usually when that happens, is comes at about the same time each cycle.  When patients have frequent recurrences, it is easily managed by using an oral medication to clear up the infection, then take that medication one day each week to prevent the recurrences.  Yeast infections can arise in a similar manner, and can also be suppressed.

No douching: Recurrent BV infections occur when the normal bacteria that live in the vagina aren't present, so the BV bacteria can cause an infection.  Don't douche, as that decreases normal bacteria.  Treat the infection with an antibiotic such as metrogel.  Between infections try to normalize the vaginal environment with yeast arrest every day for 4-6 wks.

Recurrent Vaginosis: Bacterial vaginosis is a very nonspecific diagnosis. When there is no yeast in the vagina and there is a purulent vaginal discharge a diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis can be made. There could be other reasons such as endometritis causing this purulence or a cervicitis.  Ask your gyno for help.  Get a second opinion.  See your doctor instead of your np.

ive had reoccuring vaginosis for 2years now but taken every percaution , now i keep getting urine infections too , even after having treated them. why?

Urology: you shoulod be checked by a urologist, since it appears that you you may be developing chronic cytitis or even intersticial cystiti. Your urine must be cultured and you will need to have your bladder, urethra and kidneys evaluated. I suggest high fluid intake and abstain sexually until cleared.

Not that I am aware : Of , but if u have recurring bv, you need to take acidolphilus or pro-biotics along with a good multi- vitamin to help prevent  BV and also u need your gyn to make sure the infection is not coming form your cervix or your endometrium and u need to make sure the vaginal culture is going to a lab that can diagnose all 6 different bacteria that can cause bv.

Possibly: BV or Bacterial Vaginosis may lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease( PID) which may lead to infertility if it is not treated, continue following up with your gynecologist for continuing treatment, I hope this helps.

Recurrent vaginosis: Make sure that you finish the medication prescribed for you. Avoid douching and limit the number of partners you have sex with  it is not uncommon for it to recur.

i often get vaginosis when sleeping with my partner without a condom.im sick of having to take the medication.how do i prevent this from reoccurring?

Accepted Answer

Both get tested.: Both of you should be tested and if necessary treated for this issue as obviously "something" is being passed back and forth. The testing should also include STD's for both of you and a "hold on the exchange of bodily fluids" until that occurs.
