Pessary is a ring inserted into vagina to help keep things up and perky (kind of like a vaginal truss). This helps keep the rectum straight (as name implies), and lets it do its job of evacuating stool out, not bulge into vaginal vault.

Rectocele: Surgery for rectal prolapse is different then surgery for rectocele. Rectocele can be corrected by vaginal approach and can be considered as outpatient procedure. Rectal prolapse needs to be corrected by abdominal approach and can be performed by laparoscopy or robot-assisted.

There are surgical options where this out-pouching is repaired and strengthened. A pessary is a rubbery device that is placed in the vagina to give it support. It is removed and cleaned daily. It can provide comfort without surgery for some women.

Definitely: I can not condone anal sex, especially in view of the surgical repair you have had. Severe trauma could occur including recurrence or worse, loss of control to variable degrees or infection by some nasty diseases. The anus was designed as an exit not an entrance.

Gets worse: Rectoceles are not "dangerous" but they can certainly be very uncomfortable. They will not get better on their own, but if you avoid straining, they don't have to get worse.
