You have options.: A rectocele is often asymptomatic and does not need to be repaired. A pessary is a device that is inserted into the vagina to support the pelvic structures - this can be used to treat a rectocele. Surgery can also be performed to repair a rectocele. Be sure your surgeon has a lot of experience with pelvic floor surgery.

Rectocele repair: Either a pessary or surgery. A pessary is a small flexible support that is placed into the vagina -- it holds everything in place, but does not cure the underlying problem. The only way to definitively treat the problem is to undergo a surgical repair which may or may not involve a resuspension of the vagina (if you already had a hysterectomy) or a hysterectomy (if your uterus is also falling).
