Don't flip out.: The change in flip flops , appears to have caused your foot to work a lot harder. This increased activity as well as increased impact, caused temporary damage to the foot structures and the foot responded accordingly. This may or may not be a sign of things to come.

Have it evaluated.: Pain may be due to fracture, sprains, arthritis, muscle, nerve or tendon injuries.  Have the foot evaluated and get the appropriate care.

Multiple Options: Depending on the severity of the arthritis, you can:

1) use antiinflammatories (sparingly if you have heart problems, high BP or kidney issues; can't use with stomach ulcer history)
2) try an off the shelf or custom ankle brace
3) modify your work/activities
4) consider low impact activities (yoga)

if these things are not helping, then consultation with an orthopedic surgeon may be needed.

i've had foot pain along the left side of my right foot for 3 weeks now, it just came on quite bad, when i was vaulting at gymnastics, it's causing me to get sad and upset as i can't do tumbling or vaulting bc of it, should i get it checked out?

3 week painful foot: Absolutely it should be seen by an orthopaedic  surgeon now. You may have a fracture which will worsen if it is not treated

after radiation treatment for cancer im having real bad foot pain..im not diabetic but its really sore even if im off my foot the pain is the same..could it be nerves? what should i do

Hard to say: If the radiation caused you to have edema it could happen. There could be a lot of other causes depending on the tumor site and area of radiation. There a a number of other things besides the radiation. Please discuss with your doctor.
