Seek cause: Something as simple as increasing his strength using a bench press can get this started. I'm assuming no new medications or habits, especially not lithium. Many of us men simply have a testosterone surge from time to time. Severe acne usually warrants a systemic antibiotic plus a topical such as Clindamycin with a retinoic acid derivative or benzoyl peroxide. Should be sufficient.

on nexplanon and now having really bad acne breakouts everywhere. what can be done to control the breakout? anything otc besides acne wash or creams?

Accepted Answer

OTC benzoyl peroxide: The implant is having androgenic ( like male hormone) effects. You should have it removed. Some birth control makes acne better, some make it worse. Spironolactone, probably at 100mg daily is an anti androgen which is your best hope to clear your face. It is not a hormone, not expensive ($16 for 3 months), safe. Not to be used if pregnant or in kidney failure.

recently, about 2 months ago, i started having pretty bad breakouts and whatever i've done doesn't seem to help . i was prescribed mini cycline but after getting of it, my acne breakout got worse.

Yes..: You may need to stay on the minocycline chronically ( on adaily basis) to prevent the outbreaks.  Some people need to do this for several months to years and then are able to stop  it altogether

Time for office visi: Although many consider acne a simple ritual of passage in the teen years, it can and does affect some men and women into their thirties or later.Your best treatment will come from a regular skin care plan you work out with your doc / dermatologist. Yes you could have them at 40.

help! i have bad eczema but all my eczema products like desonide and elidel that my old derm gave me cause me to breakout and get lots of cystic pimples and even some whiteheads. if i try to treat the breakouts with acne stuff it dries out my skin?

: May be you should try salicylic acid containing product like few face wash and toners. Have you used any antibiotics like doxycycline? Also can try natural products like glycerine and rose water for dry skin and orange peel and turmeric for oily. Hope it helps.

Testosterone + ?: Acne in adolescents is caused by increased testosterone production as they enter puberty (both males and females). Ditto for pregnant women. The testosterone causes increased oil production, which overwhelms the oil duct, leading to clogging, and then acne. Other hormones are probably involved as well; the exact hormonal combination has not yet been worked out.

Not by itself: Stress is good when it pushes you to do things that are good for you and others, bad only when you're  helpless or don't know how to cope. Serum cortisol, your best stress hormone, has a slight tendency to worsen acne. Instead of trying a pseudoscientific  "stress-reliever" protocol, you owe it to yourself to get 21st century treatment for your acne. Being a young adult is stressful enough!

You may never know: Acne often flares without explanation. Acne on the trunk usually requires at least one systemic medication. If you're a female, the oral contraceptive pill may clear you if it's right for you. Or a combination of topical benzoyl peroxide and a systemic antibiotic for a while may be all you need to get clear. Acne's not curable but eventually remits. Best wishes.

See a dermatologist: Having something like this appear "over night" suggests maybe exposure to something, i.e. Medication or other event that needs to be investigated. Bacteria can also be an explanation (i.e. Folliculitis) as true acne in someone 50 years old is not the most common thing to see. Have this examined.
