ive been doing a very low carb diet for a long time now i eat protein and fats and all my blood tests and electrolytes have been good. i get severe muscle cramps all over my body everytime i do physical activity. can very low carb diet cause this?

: It is rather unusual  for this diet to cause this. It is a good idea to have a diet balanced in proteins, carbohydrates and fats for the body needs and uses them all. So I suggest you do that and take a multivite. If symptoms persist you would need re=evaluation for cause. Hope you feel better

Other possibilities: Other mineral problems can cause muscle cramps, not just low potassium. Have a full blood panel done including magnesium levels. Some medications can cause muscle cramps as a side effect; for example, statin medications to lower cholesterol can do this. There can be other disorders of the muscles themselves, inflammatory conditions, even low thyroid may cause your symptoms. See your doctor soon.

Cramps : Are also caused by lack of potassium,  calcium, and dehydration.  Parasites seem like an unlikely answer.

A possible cause: One of the most common symptoms of varicose veins and venous incompetence is leg cramps. As much as 65% of the time, people with varicose veins will have leg cramps. Although there are many other possible causes, as others have said, if you have any visible veins in your legs, you should see a venous specialist (phlebologist) for help.  Tired muscles or an an electrolyte imbalance can be a cause.

Muscle cramps: Possibly infection, usually viral especially if that's been present for a short period of time. If it's been going on for a while, you will need to discuss it with your doc and a work up might be  suggested.

Muscle cramps: Repetitive muscle cramps/irritability may be due to deficiency of magnesium,calcium,sodium, or  potassium. Drink some tomato juice with a little table salt sprinkled in it. If symptoms persist,consult your physician for evaluation and appropriate tests will be ordered.

Possible: See your md for eval and blood work. Might be as simple as dehydration -- drink many liters of water a day . Might be calcium problem as well. Get tested.

Not really one nerve: Leg cramps are common in people with and without medical disorders, which means having leg cramps is not specific enough to lead a person to a diagnosis. A person can get more leg cramps if there is:  muscle fatigue, physical inactivity, liver/kidney/thyroid disorder, diabetes, dietary imbalance, osteoarthritis, Parkinson disease, pregnancy, spinal stenosis, nerve damage or abnormality, etc,...
