what're the common causes of random dizziness?

Ears drugs migraine: Infection or dysfunction of the ear can cause a for of vertigo and dizziness which can be severe.  Medications and drugs will often have side effect of dizziness.  One of the more common symptoms of migraine headaches is dizziness and nausea.  Meniere's disease affects the inner ear, and Dilantin toxicity affects the cerebellum and brainstem.  Ear infections can cause severe dizziness.

i am a 36 year old male and the other day i fell over and fainted after a random dizziness spell, this has never happened to me before, i consider myself to be a healthy individual but i dont know why this happened to me. is there something wrong?

: Could it be that you were dehydrated from not drinking enough water. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. If you have a repeat of such an incident, it would be prudent to see a doctor.

Many reasons: for dizziness, some benign, some severe.  Can be related to migraines and many patients underestimate that theory.  If the symptoms is new or severe, then please be evaluated.

Diuretic effect: As a result you experience increased water and electrolyte loss which then leads to decreased blood volume leads  to dehydration , or hypovolemia, can cause dizziness in addition to fatigue and even fainting.

Dizziness=Faintness?: Are you saying "dizzy" meaning feeling lightheaded or faint as if you were going to pass out?  Have you?  Medications are an important cause especially either blood pressure medication or medications used to treat diabetes.  Many other causes exist including types of migraine headaches.  A good physical examination and history by your primary doctor will help figure it out with you.

Migraine vs Vertigo: If the spells are true vertigo (a spinning sensation, not just "floating") that lasts about a minute associated with nausea and triggered by head movement, you may have a condition called bppv. This can be treated with physical therapy.  Another possibility, especially given the fatigue, is a vestibular migraine.  A neurologist would be able to investigate and guide treatment.

Dizzy: This is difficult to answer but it is not normal.  Thyroid problems should be considered as well as pregnancy. I recommend seeing your doctor with these symtoms.
