i have ra. i hurt one of my fingers and since then its swollen, red and very painful in the joint. i cant straighten the finger. only nail is blue.

Get seen and Xray: Maybe you broke your finger!  See your doc or go to a clinic for an Xray.

can adult ra cause radial deviation in the fingers ? what else can cause this in adults?

Perhaps: Radial deviation is unusual in most of the arhritides-ulnar deviation is more common, but another cause of metacarpophalangeal arthritis is calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease and hemochromatosis. A Rheumatologist or an Orthopedic Surgeon could advise in a specific case and do the appropriate tests.

i have a painful finger. ra tests were negative . might it be gout?  it has hurt for six weeks and is particularly painful and stiff in the mornings.

Many possibilities: Finger pain can come from many causes, including gout, osteoarthritis, strain, fracture, etc.  Additionally, a negative RA test does not always rule out rheumatoid arthritis.  Best to see your doctor to have additional tests or xrays performed to establish a cause for your pain.

Yes: Methotrexate use is associated with an increased risk of developing rheumatoid nodules.

Glucosamine has not-: --been shown to be effective in RA. If you feel the need to try it, go ahead, no harm done

can tendonitis/tendonosis cause fingers to feel stiff ? been checked for ra and that's clear.

Unlikely: A tendonitis of the hand would cause pain, swelling and tenderness along the flexor tendon of usually one finger. A stenosing tenosynovitis would cause a trigger finger. Isolated stiffness would not be a symptom. Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, which usually causes numbness and tingling in the hand, can occasionally present itself  just with numbness in the thumb and index finger.

how likely is it that i have ra if blood tests were negative?  i have stiff fingers in the morning similar to tigger fingers.

Clinical diagnosis: Morning stiffness is classic for rheumatoid arthritis and can be seen in a variety of other illnesses. Rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed based on clinical criteria of which labs are a major component. If both your rheumatoid factor and apca are normal, your physician is thinking of other possible causes -- another joint disease, fibromyalgia, deconditioning, or even cold climate.  Good luck.

how much omega 3 to take per day? i have painful joints in fingers etc and omega 3 helps. theres double and triple dose is for ra. will try that one

No benefit: Studies have suggested little benefit from fish oil in this situation. Instead, I urge evaluation by a rheumatologist.

Get evaluated: If you have an isolated joint flare, get an evaluation. Many things can cause a flare, these can include but not limited to,  rheumatoid flare, infection, or gout. Getting an evaluation will allow you to get the correct diagnosis and treatment.

pain when i move my pinky and ring finger. i have ra. how should i splint it? tape? i'd like to tape them together to keep them from moving. thank you

Accepted Answer

Get evaluated: This could be a number of things before you start splinting see a hand surgeon, this could be the sign of an impending tendon rupture at the wrist.
