i have an 8 year old girl 72lb. she is hurting low, hurts low when she pees. can i give pyridium (phenazopyridine) till we see the doc later to ease her discomfort?

No. Her MD may : prescribe Phenazopyridine at 4 mg./kg./ day divided into 3 doses, but  it can cause false results for sugar &amp; ketones in the urinalysis that the MD needs 1st.  Overweight girls get vulvitis from entrapment of urine after voiding &amp; can get a UTI from wiping back to front, leaving normal fecal bacteria to overgrow there. Have her sit backwards on the toilet to pee &amp; wipe front-to-back when done.

Probably safe: There are no detailed studies but no reported problems in infants breastfed during use at usual doses.

how long does it take septra (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) to work?. i havnt taken it three days. tomorrow will be my third. im still feeling alittle pain.? im done with pyridium.

48 hours?: Starts killing right away, but sx may remain for a few days.  A slight discomfort is still possible at 48 hours.  Generally should continue to get better.  Return of symptoms indicates a resistent organism or re-infection.

Exam first: Under the watchful eyes of a skilled pediatrician any child can be examined and properly evaluated. Your post is a bit vague &amp; does not point to a specific label. No testing may be needed if the issue can be explained by exam. When, if &amp; what testing might be needed would be determined by exam.

Day care: On average, children may get sick 8-10x a year. If your child is in day care or preschool, his chance of getting sick is even higher. I notice that atopic kids get sick more than average kids.

Try another tack: Rehersal is an important part of potty training &amp; learning where equipment is &amp; practicing diaper off sitting is important early in the process. After a toddler acquires these skills it is time to back off and become the potty assistant, not the potty commander. Tell baby you will help them when they need to go and mean it. Let them pick the time &amp; respond immediately. They may need help only once

Pediatrician: It would be wise to have him examined by his pediatrician. While delays in speech are relatively common, with boys generally slower than girls in acquiring language skills,  a thorough assessment for treatable causes at this point would be in your son’s best interest.

is it normal for a toddler to plateau in weight for a few months between 2-3 years old?

Yes: My expectation for feeding at that age is 3-5 good feeding days a month & the rest nibbling or grazing.Their interest also shifts to carbohydrates to sustain activity rather than protein to sustain growth. They may be stuck at a given weight or drop some, but most increase 3-4 lb/yr. As long as the growth rate & activity level are normal I don't worry about them.

my son is 3 years old and still drinks about 1.lt of  milk at night. non dairy. is this normal.?

Change routine: It is not normal and not healthy. For one thing you may be exposing him to dental caries because of the sugars in the milk.  Secondly by giving him so much milk you are bloating his belly and he has no room for the food he needs. This may cause anemia.
