Well.....: I can answer only with assumption  that these purple spots are not a patologic entity/lesions... And they have been there for ever.. Which means they are normal pigmentation of the gingiva, and can be seen more in african american individuals, or some people with darker tone of skin. These normal pigmentations could be corrected with a procerdure called "gum bleaching" ; in different ways.

Swollen gums: There are several reasons for swollen gums. ie; bacteria under gums, mouth breather, medications, pregnancy gingivitis, clenching teeth etc.. xrays and an exam can help us determine the problem. It can also be viral, see you're dentist or physician soon.

Leukoplakia: Is a white or gray patch that develops anywhere on the inside of the mouth. It is caused by excess cell growth of the lining of the mouth. It typically is not sensitive or painful. Leukoplakia generally is harmless, but there is a risk that it can become cancerous. To be certain that a spot is not a threat see your dentist.

White spot: It sounds like either a tooth or gum abcess.  It might also be a canker sore. Only a clinical exam with x-rays can make an accurate diagnosis.

Dark Spot: Without knowing the exact location of the "dark spot", the condition of the surrounding teeth, the periodontal status of those teeth, and your social habits like smoking, it is hard to say exactly what that lesion is. If it has been more than two weeks since it has appeared and it has not resolved, please see a local dentist for evaluation. No pain does not mean no treatment needed.

Vessel: This suggests a blood vessel since it fades. Since it is tender your physician will have to evaluate what type of vessel is involved and why it is tender.

Have to see: What you describe could be from trauma.  The trauma does not have to be severe, but I have seen those spots from biting on a pencil, chewing food that caused a small bruise or it could be from an inflammation from the tooth in front of the area.  You should see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon if the area does not resolve within a month.

Bruising : It is just some bruising (blood under the skin) from the iv. As your body breaks down blood under the skin, it changes color and will eventually disappear.
