i injured my left elbow years ago.  it has always remained purple. had a ruff area on it so had biopsy done 2 yrs ago; came back scar tissue.  it had a i have over the years hit it and the whole elbow remains purple.  can anything be done about it?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. From what you described, the discoloration may due to deposition of iron in the tissue from repeated bleeding into the tissue. If that is the case, it would be harmless.  It would be prudent to see your doctor to exclude a treatable disorder.

Unclear: I'm not sure what your question is.  Scar tissue is a an area of fibrous tissue where there has been an injury.  It has the same building blocks as normal tissue but they are arranged in such a way that they are usually stiffer.  There can be increased blood flow in the area with redness or an increase in pigment.

Laser/hydroquinone : Scars can be lightened with lasers and or hydroquinone. A dermatologist or a plastic surgeon may be helpful.

Sometimes: Frequent abortions, infected abortions and abortions occurring farther along in pregnancy are associated with a condition called asherman's syndrome, which is scarring in the uterus.

No: Scar tissue appears on a microscopic level within days after surgery, and it usually subsides as much as it ever will after about two years. However, some people develop hypertrophic or keloid scars, and these require additional treatment to improve their appearance.

Scar tissue.: The high sugar content causes collagen to crosslink and scar up.  Very few good indications for prolotherapy! the ligament because abnormally inelastic!

Hyaluronidase won't: Hyaluronidase won't help scars.  It helps dissolve hyaluronic acid which is present between collagen fibers but scars are made up of dense collagen bundles which are not affected by hyaluronidase.

would it hurt badly to get a piercing in a scar tissue?

Accepted Answer

Piercing a scar: I advise against any piercings through existing clinically significant scar tissue.
Scar tissue is less pliant has poor circulation and poorer healing which could open the door to imperfection or eroding through the piercing. Thanks for your question
