Symptoms overlap: Anorexia requires that a person be significantly underweight. Often bulimics are normal weight, or even overweight. Both anorexia and bulimia may involve binging and purging, so this does not differentiate the two.

Don't: When a behavior brings you shame & you feel you must hide it, that is a sign that things are going wrong. At least talk to your doc 1st & see if you can begin to work on solutions. You might eventually be surprised to find your folks a source of support. Good luck.

Yes: yes the two conditions can have overlap in the compensatory self injurious behavior following overeating, the distinguishing feature is the bulemics tend to be overweight as tend to overeat more but underweight with anorexia as they tend to restric calories more then overeat. treatment is similar for both with multidisciplinary approach involving psychologocal counseling and SSRI therapy.

Anorexia ?'s: Repeated "purging" may cause more violent muscle contractions which can create the pain described.  You may require psychological help to combat the negative effects of anorexia, which can evolve to serious illness and death if persisted.

Bulimic: You have symptoms of bulimia nervosa. The best way to address this is to start eating 5 SMALL meals a day &amp; control your portions. Eating one apple in AM, and then  starving all day increases likelihood of binge-eating in the evening.

Underweight: You are seriously underweight at 78lbs. Ideal weight for 63" is about 115lbs. You should consult your primary care provider immediately for assistance with your purging and laxative use. They may refer you to a specialist in eating disorders. Good luck.

Extreme: Your are starving you need to weigh another 20 pounds to even reach the growth chart.  Your BMI is 14!  Please see your doctor you need treatment.
