: Another cause of central chest discomfort is esophageal spasm. Often it causes severe chest pain which lasts for varying periods of time. If the vagus nerve is activated low blood pressure and/ or slow heart rate can occur causing lightheadedness. Wrong question: It isn't that there are hidden side effects,  it's the significance.  Blackouts usually imply a bac of greater than 0.250.  Most people would have passed out by then.  To remain up and partially functioning suggests tolerance and therefore a concern for alcoholism.

No difference: The terms "blacking out" and "passing out" are usually used to mean the same thing, (i.e. a person loses consciousness).  An exception to this might be when these terms are used to describe what can happen when a person drinks too much alcohol.  It is not uncommon for people to "pass out"  when they drink too much.  Some people may also "black out", they keep functioning but cannot remember it.

Need to observe: Do these symptoms occur spontaneously or related to head movement. If truly blacking out, need to see a neurologist. If positional, could be an inner ear problem. Any cardiac symptoms? May start with seeing your doctor.

Syncope vs vertigo : If you totally lose consciousness, it is called syncope. If you lose partial or have altered consciousness, it could be caused by a number of things.  Make an appointment with a neurologist ASAP to be evaluated and treated. Have someone else drive for you or take a taxi till you are cleared to drive safely.
