Medication: A psychiatrist can prescribe medication to help you until you learn coping skills and techniques.  Medication should be looked at as a temporary fix.  They can also refer you to counselors for exploration of issues and learning the coping skills and techniques mentioned above.

Money & Stigma: Until very recently and after congress passed what are known as "parity" laws, mental conditions did not even have to be covered by insurance companies. Even now, the rates doctors are paid for seeing mental health patients who have insurance is less than for other diseases. The fees for psychiatrists to see medicaid patients is even lower. Mental patients, sadly,  have always been stigmatized.

You should also be prepared for questions about your symptoms, other symptoms, life history, current situation and childhood background. You will want to talk about previous treatment and medical history. There also should be suggestions for a treatment plan.

No mental health: condition includes ADHD.  If you still wonder about that you can see a neuropsychologist or clinical psychologist for a second opinion.  If the psychiatrist didn't test you the psychologist can.  Peace and good health.

No: Not on the HealthTap’s free platform. You need to transfer your records to a local psychiatrist at a Community based clinic, otherwise without access to your records it will be difficult to find anybody to prescribe medicine for you. If you have a primary care doc, he or she may be able to help and bridge you as well as coordinate locally until you get reestablished.

They are different: A psychiatrist is an md that has gone through medical school. He/she will evaluate your symptoms, rule out possible medical reasons for your symptoms and prescribe treatment which may involve both medications and psychotherapy. A good therapist does not have medical training but is experienced in psychotherapy. They can recommend therapy but may end up referring you to a psychiatrist for evaluatio.
