Protruding Stomach: A protruding stomach may be caused by excess intra-abdominal fat (internal fat), excess subcutaneous fat (external fat), weak or stretched out abdominal muscles, hernias or intra-abdominal disease (eg. Tumors). Intra-abdominal fat can only be reduced by weight loss. Subcutaneous fat can be reduced by weight loss or liposuction. Stretched out abdominal muscles are improved with a tummy tuck.

my nephew, who is three years old has a protruding stomach. he doesn't seem to be in pain, very active child. what may be the cause of it? it looks so abnormal

Hard to say: Without a full review of the kids past history, exam &amp; maybe testing it is hard to speculate on the cause. It could be as simple as excess gut gas with flabby stomach muscles or an abnormally large abdominal organ. The importance could be of little significance or a life altering process.

Hennia clinical diag: Hernia is a clinical diagnosis and it depends what kind of hernia you have.
There is inguinal hernia which is the commonest and shows in groin, femoral hernia, incisional hernia at site of incision if you had previous surgery and ventral hernia and last of all hiatus hernia which is different and not visible

Hernia: This could be from a weakness in the tissue in the center of your abdominal muscles. This would be called a ventral hernia. Have your doc check it out.

A couple items: Doubt that medications or dietary measures will succeed.  Many "beer bellies" correlate with weak hip flexors, and in some cases, postural anomalies contribute.  Suggestion is to find either an exercise physiologist or PhD level physical therapist and get into a stabilizing program.  An excellent approach is RED CORD (active-COR) device imported from Norway, but therapist needs a lot of training.

i am overall pretty skinny and rather little underweight. 60kg at 5ft11inch height. however, lately got visible protruding belly fat . i drink lot of soda drinks. can soda cause a particular increase in stomach fat only? what's the solution now?

: Yes, it can even you are thin. Excess carbohydrate from soda sugar will turn into belly fat if you are inactive and not spending the calories. You can see those bellies in people who drink a lot of beers which provide a lot of excess calories. You need to drop the soda drinks &amp; start exercise with particularly focusing on the trunk exercise then increase protein intake for building up the muscles.

Cardio Mix: While sit-ups can increase abdominal muscle mass they will only minimially help you lose stomach fat, if any. To lose adipose tissue work on a cardio mix (walking, running, biking, swimming, circuit training, etc - mix it up). Keep in mind that you can not target one specific area of the body to loose weight, and over time the adipose will decrease in many areas of your body (stomach included).

why is my incision bulging? i had my 10th rib removed due to a "rib deformity acquired", though there was no injury.  i woke up one morning after having gone to bed feeling fine, and had a rib sticking out of my stomach.  now, after having the rib removed

I : I can not make a diagnosis. Sometimes after surgery, the abdominal muscles may be weak in the area that the surgeon cut open.  Because of the hole or weakness, you can see a bulge if internal organs or fat protrude trhough it.  You would be most apt to see a bulge if you are bearing down (like coughing hard or lifting something heavy). This is called an incisional hernia. You need to contact your surgeon and notify him about your bulge.  
   You need to get emergency care if you are not able to gently push the bulge back through the hole and if the area becomes painful, you develop a fever or you start vomiting.   The danger is that if a  piece of one of your organs (like your intestine) protrudes out of a hernia and gets stuck there, it could get off from it's blood supply and the tissue could die. That would be very serious. Take care and let your surgeon know.

i am very bloated, started birth control around a month ago. stomach round and sticking out. normal? or is there something else that could cause it?

Could be frmm thator: Could be form something else like an ovarian cyst , i would recommend a pelvic ultrasound and to blood check kidney and liver function, assuming all of that is normal which it probably will be  then it is most likely from  pill , and if it does not go away on  second pack or gets worse u may need to stop or drop down to a lower dose if u are not already on the lowest dose, loloestrin lowest pill.
