Anti-inflammatory: Acts as a mid-strength cortisone but not a cortisone. Especially useful for eyelid eczema. Very effective with no risk of cataracts or glaucoma or perioral dermatitis. Also used for chronic genital conditions because it does not cause atrophy. Recently generic, the rediculous price may come down  next year. Not a cream, only ointment. 2 strengths, for children and adults.

i am 41, woman and i have swolen lips for 7 years. when i use cream protopic it settleit for a while and then it start again. lips are sore.

Swollen lips: Swollen lips can be due to various acute and chronic skin disorders. Inflamed lips are also called "cheilitis". Diagnosis and treatment requires consultation with a dermatologist.  General advice includes to avoid licking or smacking your lips, and to apply plenty of emollient lip balm. Keep an eye out for contact factors that irritate your lips, and avoid them.

Hand Eczema: 1. Wash the hands as infrequently as possible and use gentle soaps-i.e. Dove
2. Apply a hand cream after washing and during the day. Neutragena hand cream and cetaphil hand cream are both great.
3. Keep the hands out of water--use rubber gloves with cotton liners when doing dishes.
4. Go to your doctor for corticosteroid ointments (sometimes creams work) when things start to flare.

Yes: Sensitive and allergic skin has a strong genetic component.  In fact, syndromes exist that are very predictable and often are inherited.  Atopic (allergic) syndromes often involve sensitive skin, allergies, and asthma.

Protopic.: Protopic and Elidel (pimecrolimus) are calcineurin inhibitors -- anti-inflammatory topical medications. Most dermatologists (me included) feel that Protopic works better than Elidel (pimecrolimus), and neither works as well as steroid creams on inflammatory skin diseases such as lupus - but they lack the steroid-related side effect risks, so worth a try before going to a steroid cream.

Heard from whom?: you have been seen by a professional whose clinical judgement was to prescribe you the said medicines according to your case,so kindly follow what your doctor advised you to, and keep the follow up.The steroid cream prescribed, Travocort, is a potent one,pls don't exceed the prescribed duration. I know you may be frustrated, but you need to trust your doctor. Elidel/Protopic aren't meant 4 ur case

Different: Some people with ezcema respond well to steroid ointments.. Others don't. Protopic works by stopping the immune system from releasing certain chemicals which can trigger the ezcema reaction. .. Different from steroids.
