Yes: Gleason score is assigned by the pathologist based on microscopy, and tells how aggressive the cancer is likely to be. Low gleason cancers nowadays may even simply be watched rather than overtreating. Common prostate cancer has only a modest tendency to run in families.  Best wishes.

my question: what other scanning can  i undergo to establish if cancer is not present in other areas?

Prostate cancer : You can get bone scan and CT or MRI of pelvis at this time. Discuss with your urologist for further information regarding management especially timing of surgery, in some cases it can be waitful watching for 3-6 months for progress or stable conditions. It depends on Stage: Hormonal therapy using a shot is commonly used but only for Cancer of stages 3 and or 4 of prostate Cancer. For stage 1 or 2 there is local therapy(surgery or radiotherapy ) are considered adequate.

: If your dad does not want surgery and prefer radiation therapy, he will be referred to a radiation oncologist who will discuss the radiation modalities so your dad can decide. Rad oncologist does not prescribe pills unless your dad wants radiation tx but oncologist wants to shrink the prostate first with hormon tx. Prostate cancer Gleason score 7 should be treated and your dad decides the Rx type.

Radiation for CAP: Prostate cancer (cap) responds to radiation therapy, though radiation is less effective against higher grade tumors.  Additionally, you harbor a significant risk for nodal spread of your cancer, even if it was detected by elevated psa alone.  Not knowing your age, health status, symptomatic state or clinical stage, it's hard to definitely recommend surgery, though your best chance is prostatectomy.
